Drone LiDAR survey for DA Survey of Rural Land
Drone based contour survey and boundary stakeout of 30ha rural property for planning and DA
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The owner of a rural property near Eurobodalla in NSW was working with a town planner to submit a development application with their local council. To support the planning and DA works, a contour survey of the site, covering 30ha and heavily forested, was required as well as a stakeout of the property boundary and a right of way which was detailed in the deposited plan. Access to the rugged and heavily wooded property was difficult and unfeasible for conventional survey, therefore requiring a drone LiDAR solution.
PROJECT SCOPE
DIODRONE SOLUTION
Diodrone developed a survey solution utilising drone-based data capture in conjunction with conventional ground based cadastral survey.
High resolution drone-LiDAR was captured to develop a digital terrain model and elevation contours over the site which, in conjunction with a high resolution aerial orthophoto, allowed for virtual survey of fence lines and site features.
Drone-LiDAR delivered a detailed topographic survey despite the rugged, heavily forested terrain on the property.
The property boundary and a right of way was digitised from the deposited plan and then staked-out at key locations on the site. A network of ground control points was coordinated, using differential GNSS, and used to orthorectify aerial imagery as well as verify LiDAR accuracy, which achieved better than 50mm RMSE in horizontal and vertical.
Drone LiDAR and digital survey reduced the need for conventional survey teams to access the site on foot, reducing costs to the landowner and providing a more detailed topographic survey to inform planning and Development Application.
